Open Question: Do you get money back after taxes if your under 18?

I had quite a lot taken out. Also. My mom gets money for me being a dependant. Is that from federal or state? Or something different? I got taxes back last year with my dad, but my mom (who doesn't hardly do anything but give me a bed on the weelends for me) says I don't get money back because I'm her dependant, and I don't get taxes from work when I'm a dependant.
